Elective 3- Painting (Yay!!)...

We had to set up an installation with in groups with the objcts we brought in and then do paintings of zoomed in areas we found interesting.....

This was my first time using a pallette knife, I f-ing loved it!!

We also did 2 life painting sessions...this was also my first time doing life painting, I'd done life drawing before but they're VERY different, I found it pretty hard to get it all done in 3 hours but I kina loved it!

In the second week we were left more to our own devices...I went for installation painting again because I liked the wide colour range it allowed (:...

We did another life painting the second week..it turned out waaaaay better...
 I didn't actually finish this...

Soo I made hollow vessels to be fired..
I made a 3 coil pots first
I then smoothed them over using the toothed tool
I added necks to the pieces by joining a thinner coils and smoothed them over
We then raku fired them(the particular method we used was naked raku)
They had to placed in a airtight bin for the smoke to soak into the unglazed pieces
This is how they looked when they came out of the bin before I chipped the glaze off them
And after the glaze was cracked off all of them
I made wire pieces to go with my ceremic pieces
 We also threw a bowl...

Elective number 2-Ceremics....

We were given a photo of a plant or part of a plant and then taking inspiration from it we made ink drawings which we based our initial simple designs on...

These were solid froms which can't be fired because they would explode...

Two week printing block...

The brief was pretty broad-'Space Around Us'...I took a 3d piece from 1st semester where I replaced traffic lights with people and used that as a starting point...
It wasn't about making a nice picture that was obviously something but more about creating interesting images and the process we used..

And these are just a few pages from my sketch book...

Casting...

I made a relief mould of an artists mannequin in different positions I felt represented different emotions, I had wanted to make one in the round and placethem in a collaged 3d scene but it would have been near to impossible to make full moulds of the mannequin...

Another sign in an unexpected material

The spectrum of colour through the traffic lights

I had wanted a different colour in each light and the spectrum of colour to follow thorough each but sadly it couldn't be done with a wood block so this is what happened instead

Colours and body language as signs

 Stressed
Relaxed
Nervous
 Happy

 Uncertain
 Romantic
Calm
Making the sign heads started me thinknig about colours and peoples body language as signs.  I used the colurs and emotions of a mood ring to create a scene with people feeling these emotions..i hope the colours and body language portray the emotions...

signs in different materials

A stain glass sign..
 A wax sign...
 A food sign..
And a person sign...
